Ceylon sits alongside Gibson Creek, a tributary of Long Creek, in the Rural Municipality of The Gap No. 39. It incorporated as a village on September 26, 1911.
Just three kilometres east of the village, a small dam and reservoir on Gibson Creek is the setting for Ceylon Regional Park. The dam was first built in 1934 and rebuilt in 1984. In the 1950s the spot was known as Ceylon Beach, and in 1965 it was designated a regional park.
Today the 20-acre park has a campground with 34 sites, ball diamonds, a fishing dock, a boat launch and a swimming pool, and the reservoir is stocked with jackfish and perch. Access is from Highway 377. In the village itself, the bar is the only business that remains.
